How To Style A Pompadour - The Master Course
Netherlands
Приєднався 26 січ 2015
Hi there my name is Tommy. Most people call me "the guy with the hair" haha.
I'm from Amsterdam in the Netherlands which is a very small country in Europe.
I started this channel to show people how I style my pompadour and maybe I can give, or get, some advice .
Nothing on this channel is too serious. Just having some fun.
I'm still learning so I'm hoping to stay inspired this way. This channel and all videos are made to entertain you, and for me to have some fun with the media format.
You can also follow me on instagram: tommydg_amsterdam

Quick 2 Minute Pomp (s Not Dead) Demo
Just a quick pomp video. A demonstration, if you will, to show that you can get good results with little effort. Actually I was testing out my iPhone's "cinematic" mode.

How To Style A Classic Pompadour - Episode 02: Petroleum-based Pomade - Murray's Beeswax

Episode 2: Styling with a petroleum Based Pomade In this episode I'm styling my hair with two greasy, petroleum based pomades. 1. Murray's Black Beeswax 2. Blue Magik Pressing Oil (for shine) The main advantage of using a petroleum based pomade is that your hair will stay recombable all day long and it most likely will add a nice amount of shine to it. I already had some buildup in my hair when...

How To Style A Classic Pompadour - Episode 01: Styling With A Water Based Pomade - Layrite
Переглядів 27 тис.9 років тому
Episode 01: Styling with a water-based pomade. This is a step by step tutorial on how to style a classic pompadour for men using a water-based pomade. In this video I use: Layrite Superhold Layrite Super Shine (optional)
Hi, but do you mix the two ointments (pomade) in the video together or do you put one first and then the other? Thank you!
In this video I used the Black Beeswax as a base and the pressing oil only as a topper. Making that base takes a lot longer in clean hair and probably multiple scoops. Once the base is solid, and you can sculpt a firm pomp, you add just a very tiny bit of the pressing oil to get some shine. If you add too much pressing oil, the pomade will loose it's hold.
@@Tom_le_GrandForgive me, I don't think the answers are coming... Anyway, I was saying if it was possible to use Lucky tiger cru butch instead of the creams you use (unfortunately I can't find them on the internet)? And then i wanted to tell you, since I own them, that I'm mixing two pomades in particular: first I put the black and white to make the hair stronger and then I use, immediately after, the royal crown hairdressing to give shine to the hair; so together the hair is more compact but also shinier... do you think I'm doing it correctly?
@@Frankstylerome Yes! You are doing it correctly. That is basically what I explained to you in my reply 😄 Does Black and White give you enough hold? In my experience it's a light-medium. I have never used Cru-Butch but it looks like a solid pomade to use!
@@Tom_le_Grand Let's say I have to put some Black and White on it so that it holds; but it does its job... Which pomade, more or less, do you think is the best in terms of control (holds, etc.)?
@@Frankstylerome I have very thick and coarse hair so I need pomade more on the heavy side to start with. My favourite pomade does not exist anymore unfortunately. For now I use Lockhart's heavy or Reuzel Pink. Usually mix them with some Bone Crusher.
Hi, is it possible to use, because I have them, the royal crown or the black and white pomade? thanks man🎉
Hey! Sure you can use them. They are both light holds, so it won't give you much support on thick hair.
@@Tom_le_Grand Thank you so much for the quick reply... I wanted to ask you, if you don't mind, if I can send you some photos of how I've been doing my hair in a pompadour style lately? I would be grateful (maybe on instagram)
@@lepaginedelsapere... Sure! I'll be honoured. What is your account?
@@Tom_le_Grand I wrote to you on instagram, thanks for your time 😀
@@Tom_le_Grand I don't think my answers are coming 🤣...is this a UA-cam error?
have you ever heard of and seen the band Maroon 5? You look exactly like their lead singer.
Adam Levine is a handsome guy, so thanks for that 😁 I usually get Christian Bale.
how do,you respond when people want to touch your hair after you've spent so much time on it?@@Tom_le_Grand
isn't it REALLY hard to get all that out of your hair at night?
That depends on what you are putting in. You can always use something water based. With the more traditional greases you just build up and wash it every 10-14 days.
Bonjour combien d'années pour avoir la bonne longueur merci
Great tutorial, Mr Christian bale.
🤣 Thanks!
Straight Facts
Beautiful pomp.
You sir, are one very handsome man. I don't know whether or not you're still actively posting videos but I'm definitely subscribing. Amazing hair.
Thank you so much ;) No plans for a new one and my camera died.
@@Tom_le_Grand Aw, that's too bad. Here's hoping that you'd release all the pomp tips in your archive videos haha.
Awesome!
Truth be told, no one will ever be able to match The King's pompadour, he took that secret to the grave.
i made my frist pomp from this video man thank you <3
Wow that's really nice to hear! I actually thought this video wasn't adding any value. Keep it up!
@@Tom_le_Grand Keep up the good work !! never doubt your self.
😭
This is great. No taking a half an hour. This video just lays it out and does an amazing job!
Pure genius
Looks great…black and slippery like a penguin!!!🐧
Looks great!!! You already had build up so the advantage was there.
Nothing can give you that shine like grease does
You should of mentioned that Classic oil based pomades do not work on curly, thick, wavy, hair . Only strong hold - water based pomades work on thick, wavy type hair . Please take a deep breath , water based pomades are not here to kill you 😂
You should have mentioned that you didn't watch or understand the video 🤣 Everyone should enjoy whatever product works for them. I certainly do. Please take a deep breath and enjoy a bit of satire. Thanks for watching!
🥸🥸
The King has returned!!! You have been missed 👑
Nice! This looks so easy and when I try it it’s always a circus. But mostly because my hairdresser can’t cut properly for a pomp.
A good definitely helps.
And his hair, has already that natural flow… because he already do that since a lot of time… discover the flow of your hair and it will be easier
@@wilkman778 Yes! That's what I always try to tell people. You can try to copy (from which you can learn a lot) but in the end it's better to find your own style. Like you said go with the flow of your hair.
Best camera autofocus test video on UA-cam! 😎
Haha! It was actually fake iPhone autofocus 😎 I was messing around with it.
💪 nice to see you back in another vid!
Hey Mike! Nice to hear from you. Yeah maybe I make one last "real" video
Yo motoboy ir looks amazing I loved it! Its going to BE my new hair style
Wow, your hair is amazing!
Thanks!
The word Sexy gets tossed around quite often, but I think you're the one who's truly deserve it because HOT DAMN, Elvis would've been so proud 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I would be a fool to argue with that opinion! ;) Thanks!
@@Tom_le_Grand You're welcome sir~ Really wish that you'd make more contents.
How many inches of hair do you have, sir, to achieve this terrific looking pompadour?
You just need enough to work with. A bit of length is definitely necessary
Is your hair trimmed diagonally, on top (the front hairline being the longest and then trimmed gradually shorter at about the top middle section, the sides and back of head)? Is that how your barber cuts your hair, sir?
@@DennisFTowle-gi3gf In this video I can't remember. But in episode 4 and the Jusincredible video it surely was.
Very nice 😎
Thanks!
You did the swirl pretty good but you need longer hair on the sides for slicking back in a semi circular motion, mainly for covering the swirl from the middle portion of the left side part. It should look like the pomp is gradually going higher from the rear cowlick towards the front. Otherwise your head will look weird from the side(experience) Like you said, head shape also matters, one should have wide forehead, or make it look wider. In my case, I thought my forehead looked small, then I realised that I had some hair grown on the corners of my forehead which ruined the side profile, shaped it, and now it looks way better. (I realised that my hair is almost same to that of Elvis, the part where that natural swirl comes in the front, my hair is wavy but not so thick) Thanks for the Video mate 🤠
Yes you are probably right. I'm not emulating Elvis hair here. Just my own. You should show us your hair! (sorry for the delayed response)
The production on this is immaculate..
How long does it take to grow your hair down past your nose? My current hair length is eyebrow level
Probably 2 to 3 months.
@@Tom_le_Grand what’s the minimum length needed for a pompadour? Mine is eyebrow level and I’m having troubles styling it haha
@@jeremyhan2631 Haha! Well it all depends. Did you just start? It takes some practice. Sometimes you need another product. Or you use too much or too little. I'm just guessing here because I don't know you. Eyebrow level sounds like a pretty good starting point.
Yup I’ve actually just started maybe about a month now. I use the blue Reuzel pomade but I’m not sure if I’m using too much or a lot … lol
@@jeremyhan2631If you are on facebook, there is a group "Everything Pomade". You can ask a lot of questions there. Post some pictures with it, or maybe a video. I'm on there sometimes. Very hard ,you are the best :))
Very nice :)
Thanks so much!
@@Tom_le_Grand :)
Best tutorial and best pomp out there. Definitely doing this style tomorrow.
Did you do it?
@@Tom_le_Grand yes but my hair is a bit long. I'll have to trim it then restyle. Thanks Tom
Why do i feel that i just watched some hair porn? :D
Haha! Because you did ;)
Wow, not only that your pomp is the best one on UA-cam, but out of your other videos this one is my personal favourite. The height, the shape, the hold, all is perfect!!! Will you recreate this look again?
Wow it's been a while since I rewatched this. It's nice to know that people are still watching and appreciating them. I will get a hair cut in a couple of days (it's been 3 months...) Who knows. I may do the grey version haha ;)
@@Tom_le_Grand Please do, by all means! (sorry for the very late reply btw)
Yo josuke
Hello men! Your combing technique is AMAZING. Got a question for you. Did you ask your barber to do a long trim cut, or low fade? Thank you!
Bumper music sounds like MGS4
What is your opinion on the classic oil based pomades like, black&white, royal crown and lucky tiger cru butch.
I've only used Black and White & Royal Crown. B&W smells great and RC has very nice shine. I use them mainly as a topper. So I like classic stuff but they do have to work with my hair. Sweet Georgia Brown, DAX, Murrays. I love the smell, oldschool artwork. But I mostly use modern home brewed products like American Greaser Supply, Lockhart's, Pomps Not Dead & Big Slick. Works great for me and has a more clean feel than those factory products.
Ik heb altijd al gevonden dat waterbasis pommades geen echte pommades zijn
Het zijn handige producten.
man is your hair hard?
No it's coarse but soft
@@Tom_le_Grand man i need help!! My hair when I get out of bathing looks like yours in your video where you explain how to comb your hair, I don't remember the exact name of the video but I use a gel that makes my hair very hard
@@Tom_le_Grand When you go to the barber shop, how do you ask for your cut?
@@andresrodriguez8336 That is because most gels harden up when they dry. I some cases I prefer it . But most of the time I use oil-based pomades. That keeps it soft
@@andresrodriguez8336 My hair is already in a good place so I don't have to ask for a real specific thing. Just cut of a little at the top and tidy up the sides. If you want to slick your sides back ask them to keep it long enough.
Do you dye your hair or is the jet-black collor all yours?
This was dyed to my "original" Asian color haha. It used to be very dark brown/black. With age it has started to fade away to grey. I dyed it for 4-5 years and I hated the every six weeks redo. So since PANIC-19, I freed myself and I'm back to half brown/half grey. In the video it looks more jet-black than it was because of the color correction I did in the edit.
Nada a ver com o topete de Elvis Presley
That's right!
Definitely one of if not the nicest pomp I’ve ever seen!
Thanks man. I'm glad you liked it.
Bro you are the best
Hi, would you share the styling process of this pomp? This is just perfect, Thanks in advance.
